"I am here to explore the magic of our world. You'll find me in the places where the natural and metaphysical realms meet." -KL

Hi, I'm Kendall. I am an artist who works mainly in acrylics although I also enjoy watercolours. I had always loved drawing and painting in my youth. Yet somehow, life conditioning had pushed my love of art to the side, and for many years my creativity was dimmed. In 2017 a blessing in the disguise of a cancer diagnosis helped me realize that I must live vibrantly each day, trust my inner guidance, create inspiring artwork to bring joy to myself and others, and take actions to show that we can all make a positive difference in our world. I am grateful for the space and time I needed for healing and reconnecting with myself, and I spent a few years cultivating positive change and nurturing that creative spark back into my life. I am now following this calling of mine with my whole heart and am glad I can offer my creative works to others.

I feel so fortunate to live and paint in Prince George, British Columbia where there is an abundance of wildlife and nature all around to inspire me. I am excited to see where this path takes me, through my art and through my ever-changing relationship with this beautiful planet that is home to us all!

My inspiration and work as an artist

PAINTING AND CREATING

Whether I am painting a commission, completing a project I already have on the easel, or allowing a new inner vision to come through onto canvas, my time in my studio is sacred to me. It is an oasis from the constant buzzing of the fast-paced, high-tech, and over-stimulated lifestyles we often function within, and it has become a necessary part of my life to keep me in a healthy and happy balance. I like to listen to soothing music as I work and I can feel my mind and body relax into a different state of awareness, which I like to call painting meditation. I find the creative process is so natural when I am in this space. I am able to let go of whatever is going on in the outer world so I can focus my energy on creating inspiring, uplifting, soothing, and more heart-centered work to share with others.

TIME IN NATURE

I need to have unplugged time in Nature in order to support my well being and to inspire my creativity. Sometimes this looks like hiking, which might be a day hike or a multi-day backpacking trip. Sometimes it looks like time in the garden, working with and learning from the land. Sometimes it looks like a few hours in the woods, listening to the trees, watching patterns of light, and exploring the often overlooked details of all the life around me. And sometimes it looks like time spent reflecting by one of the many rivers and lakes that surround the area I call home.  I also try to experience as many sunrises and sunsets as I can because it helps me to connect to the ever-changing beauty of this planet. I feel like this time in Nature is the most important way for me to connect to what truly matters in my creative work and in my life.

SUPPORTIVE WORK FOR THE STUDIO

Of course a part of my process as an artist is the support work that goes on behind the scenes to allow me to create this art. This includes time spent with the website, emails, social media, photography, and other technology-based or more functional aspects of work so that I can share the paintings I love with you. Some of my time is dedicated to meetings with Terrill as we support each other's creative growth, and as I get to learn so much from her great stores of wisdom. I also devote some time to developing my skills as an artist and as my own small business, and I continue to learn and grow every day. I know this all seems like the less exciting side of being an artist, but it is so important, like setting the roots from which I can grow and bloom into my creative calling. And so, this important work takes up a part of how I spend my days, and it all comes together to create this way of life that is deeply meaningful to me and brings me so much joy!

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

creating work i love to uplift the world.

INSPIRATION

I have a unique blend of two main inspirations that I am exploring. The first comes from a deep connection to childlike wonder and whimsy, which would best be described as an inner magic (yes, I still believe in fairies!). The second comes from a renewed love for the natural world, as I often went to woodland trails during my healing journey. I still go to nature to be soothed and inspired.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

While my career in art is still young, I have had the opportunity to paint many pet portraits and other unique commissions, have had my artwork on display and for sale at Books & Company and InJoy Studio & Boutique, have taught watercolor painting classes, and have illustrated for a children's book written by A.J. Mittendorf, called Carnival of the Animals, published in 2016. I have also participated in Studio Fair events. I have regularly created artwork for auction since 2019 for both Pacific Wild and the Takaya Lone Wolf Arts Festival, two charities very dear to me, to support conservation and wildlife protection in BC.

TECHNIQUES

I enjoy working with and developing my skills in both acrylic and watercolor painting, while exploring other mixed media additions. I enjoy painting the details required for realism however flairs of whimsy can often be found in my work, such as glitter highlights, vibrant use of color or metallics, and added touches of magic revealed within otherwise more natural landscapes. I use professional grade paints and materials in my work to offer the highest quality that I can in my art.

"How do I express that every being on Earth is interconnected, that every day we get to experience is a gift, and that we can choose to support one another on our healing journeys and live in a way that values all expressions of life? How do I connect all that I love in the natural world and the wisdom I see in animals with the magical possibilities I experience in my inner self? These are the questions I am exploring through my art. I know that we are all reflections of Consciousness, and every time I tap into creative ideas and pour my love into the details of my work, I hope to share some of the joy, inspiration, and wonder that I feel."
